Nashville CARES is Tennessee's leading community-based AIDS service organization. Its mission is to promote and participate in a comprehensive and compassionate response to HIV and AIDS infection through education, advocacy, and supportive services. The doors of Nashville CARES are open to anyone affected by HIV and AIDS in need of comfort and care. There is no charge for any service.
HTCC's Involvement
We provide monthly financial support. Our Care Team has been in existence since 1996 and works closely with Nashville CARES. We participate in their annual events including Night in White, Artrageous, and the AIDS Walk. In the most recent AIDS Walk, our team was in the top 10 teams for money raised. HTCC also sponsored the kids tent at this event. Our volunteers have contributed more than 1,500 hours this year alone.

In the fall of 2004 we partnered with area churches to build a home with
Habitat for Humanity. We also raised more than $2,000 toward the cost of this project. We are scheduled to again participate with this organization for a build in the fall of 2006.

In 1996 Room in the Inn and Guest House merged to become
Campus for Human Development.
Since 1986, Room in The Inn has tried to reverse the Christmas story by offering shelter to the homeless for 150 nights each winter season. Local congregations throw open their doors, open their arms, and say "Welcome, there's room in the inn." One of the things that the "guests" keep repeating is "I never knew so many people cared whether I live or die."
From November '98 to March '99, 139 Middle Tennessee churches of all denominations provided individual guests with over 27,216 beds, 60,037 meals, 18,023 snacks, and 7,920 showers. This service could not have been provided without the compassion of over 18,000 volunteers giving a total of 79,382 hours of their time. The value of donated services for this program is estimated at one million dollars a year.
