Cynthia
Andrews-Looper, a native of Greenville, South Carolina, received her Bachelor
of Arts in Psychology from
Southern
Wesleyan University in 1988 and a Masters in Ministry in 1993, also from SWU.
She has trained extensively in dramatic communication at
Limestone
College and
Bob Jones University,
where she was a Speech major, and completed an apprenticeship with the Southern
Appalachian Repertory Theatre. She brought her training and skill in drama and
ministry together when she combined them to form
"Reality Check," a refreshing
blend of stand-up comedy, drama and honest reflection. From 1993-1996, Andrews-Looper
traveled throughout the country under auspices of the
Wesleyan
Church, ministering in churches, youth camps, women's conferences and adult
retreats, performing for audiences ranging from twenty-five to two thousand. She
became a popular speaker and Christian comedienne among evangelical circles.
In January of 1996, after much soul-searching, she moved from Greenville, South
Carolina to Nashville, Tennessee. In August of that same year she started a Bible
Study that grew into what is today Holy Trinity Community Church, an affirming
Christian congregation of the United Church of Christ.
"Pastor Cindy,"
as she's called by her parishioners, received ministerial standing in the AL/TN
Association of the United Church of Christ in April 2006. Locally, she serves
on the Ecumenical Partnership and the West Meade Interfaith Group.
She
considers the events of the past several years to be of great significance in
her spiritual journey.
"Today I live with hope, peace and joy that I only dreamed
of in the past. I came face to face in spirit with a Holy God and found an unconditional
love that inspired me to share this hope. We serve a God whose arms are open to
anyone who will walk into them. Discovering that love is truly life-changing.
We want people to find God's loving embrace at Holy Trinity. If we accomplish
that, we have succeeded in our mission." A recent quote given by
a church member sums up the heart and ministry of Rev. Cynthia Andrews-Looper:
"She has humor, spontaneity and warmth that allows individuals to examine themselves
in light of Christ's love. When she speaks, I feel God's love and presence."
